Ice Skating

Justin started Ice Skating Lessons this morning. He had a ball. He did great. He had never been on the ice before. He learned very quicky how to stand up and move on the ice. Evan started lessons on Friday (I forgot my camera, picutres to come) and Justin wanted to take lessons to. He started in the Preschool class and at the end he got moved up to the 4 year old class, Go Justin!

It's Dinosaur Week at Joy School

We have a unit on dinosaurs this month for Joy School. Justin has been looking forward to this. He loves dinosaurs. We also had Rebekah back with. We haven't seen her since Thanksgiving. She and her siblings have been sick. One day on the way home from Joy School in December Justin actually asked me if Rebekah was still his friend. That was nice to know that he was thinking about her. Now back to the business at hand...

Our first activity of the day was Our New Years Activity. Each child got their own calendar that we traced their foot in a square and then they are supposed to trace it again in another square to see how much it has grown.

They loved this game so much in December we played it again. Still one of their favorites. Jane got the first bingo.

Our next activity was everyone getting their dinosaur name. They thought that was hilarious. We came up with names like Hot Wheel-a-saurus(Justin) and Kitty Liter-a-saurus(Rebekah). We practiced writing our new names.

Our next activity was digging for dinosaur bones. They loved this. We had to do it over about four times because they kept wanting to do it again.

After we found all of the bones we found we had to glue the pieces together to make a dinosaur.

All in all it was a fun day. Rebekah we were so glad to see you back. You put part of the Joy in Joy School. we love you and we missed you.

Justin has a friend named Jane. He is exactly two weeks older than her. He informed me this summer that Jane is his girlfriend and that he is going to marry her when he is four. Jane couldn't come to her birthday party because her sister was getting baptized at the same time. He was pretty disappointed so we had a lunch date for them. We went to Friendly's (his favourite place). We went to her place to pick her up and then we went.

Justin has been taking a sports class on Monday afternoons for three to five year olds. When the class started he wasn't quite three but that didn't matter to him. He LOVES it. This week they played hockey. He wasn't so sure about it at first but once he got into it he loved it.

A few weeks ago Sister Smith came to playgroup and read halloween stories to the kids. They loved it. This is the first time I have taken Justin for this because usually two year old boy and sitting quietly do not go together but he did great. He told me now that he is three he can sit still and listen at the same time.

It's Shark Week (at Joy School)

We started off our day by playing with the matching folders. We only used the color ones today they had to match the color or deisgns. Everyone did a great job and loved it.We definately do this activity again.

After circle time (we discussed the weather, did the calendar, sang our days of the week song, letter of the day (D), and color of the day (blue) we palyed a matching game. Jane rocked it.

Our next activity of the day was to use the pattern board and try to figure out "What comes next"

Discussing what comes next. They figured out how to follow the pattern pretty quickly.

We then measured ourselves and how long our armspread (we called it hugs) was. then we colored our people.

Our finished sharks. After we colored them we put tiny seashells on for teeth because shark teeth are sharp. And they lose up to 20,000 of them in a lifetime.

Don't Mess With Me (or I'll knock your teeth out)

Yeah I did it. I knocked his last front tooth out. His top front tooth had been hanging in there for a while and yesterday we were playing around and my finger got caught in his tooth and out it came. There were a few tears and then great excitement when he realized it was out. To bad it didn't happen the day before. He had his school pictures the day it got knocked out. I think he looks adorable without his teeth. Sorry bud I didn't mean to but I am glad it is out. You look to cute right now.

I got to teach Justin's Joy School for the second time this year. This month's theme is Ocean Commotion so today we talked about whales and the octopus. We read a book about a giant squid who gets swallowed by an even bigger shark. We made our own whales using paint that we blew through a straw so we could be like whales using their blow spouts. We then cut strips of blue tissue paper to make our whales blow sprouts. We added an eye and we were done. We stopped our work for a while and had a snack of teddy grahams( I forgot our special snack so we will have that on Thursday). We then got down to work on our octopus windsocks. We had to work on following directions and cut 7 straight lines (that is hard work when you are three) we then had to add two eyes and glue it together. We then finished off the day by working hard on some puzzles and reading some more stories about the ocean.

Justin's Birthday Cake

Justin decided back in the summer that he wanted a robot cake for his birthday. He kept insisting that was what he wanted so I decided to make them for him. On the Friday before his birthday party my friend Cheri came over and we spent about five hours putting it together. A lot of work but well worth it when I saw the smile on his face.

We had Evan's birthday pool day with his friends today. Tomorrow is his actual birthday but it is suipposed to be rainy and chillier tomorrow so we did it today. Six years. I have been taking care of Evan for six years. That is a long time. Six years at a job that I really didn't want at first. Six years with one of the sweetest boys ever and the cutest little brother possible. To celebrate we went to Benihana's for dinner. (Evan's choice. He said he was craving California rolls and their salad.

So a little back story. When I wa last looking for a new job I had certain things that I did and did not want to deal with.
I thought I wanted to take care of a girl or newborn twins or triplets. (I got an almost 1 year old boy.)
I did not want to work for first time parents. (I got first time parent.)\
I wanted to work in the Summit area. ( I ended up in Morristown)

I was supposed to go meet Evan and his parents on a Sunday afternoon. I spent the week with severe misgivings about this job. Evan was a boy I wanted a girl. He was young and had no siblings which usually means neurotic parents and I don't deal very well with that. I also had spent the weekend taking care of my friends children(he had 3) and it was a tough weekend. Then they got lost on the way home and I was going to be really late. I considered not going. I really didn't want to go. Tricia talked me into it. I called them and told them I was going to be late and why . He seemed impressed that I called and told me to just call them when I was on my way.
Tricia and Dave got home and I called and said I was on my way. I walked into their house and immediately saw the acutest little boy ever. He was over sitting in my lap and playing with me within five minutes. As I was talking to George and Melissa they didn't seem to be overly cautious the baby. I left their house knowing that I wanted this job. I went back and told Tricia that I had found my job. I got the call the next day offering me the job and I started 4 days later. I knew things were going to be okay when I showed up for work the first day and Melissa was going to work (most stayed home the first day or two) She handed me the car keys and asked me if I knew how to work his car seat. When I asked her if I needed to call her if I decided to go somewhere (ie play dates,mall, friends house ) she said let her know if we were leaving the state.

Evan it has been great watching you grow and learn thee past six years. It seems like only yesterday you were that cute, sweet little baby. I have gottten to watch you get teeth, take your first ssteps, eat food, leaqarn to talk, go to the potty, make your first friends, and go off to school. It has been wonderful.Remember I love you.

We had our annual playgroup waterparty this morning. The boys love doing this. They love to have playgroup at their house during the summer because we can never have it during the winter because we live so far away from everyone else and it doesn't work with school pickups and such.

You've Got A Friend

Justin has been obessesd with Toy Story since he saw the movie last summer. He had to have a Toy Story birthday party and he had to be Woody for Halloween. Lately he has been walking around the houe singing "You've Got A Friend In Me". I have heard him sign it so much i have beentuning him out until today. He is singing and then at the end I hear "You've Got A Friend In Me and I Won't Move to Utah and Leave You All Sad".

Wart Removal and Ice Cream Cones

Okay this post is mostly for Evan just because I don't want to forget, but it is pretty funny. Last summer Evan had a couple of warts that we started treating to remove them. He was already going to a dermatologist every thing weeks to have his molloscum treated so his doctor was keeping a watch on them and giving me ideas of what to do to get rid of them. After about 6 months with no progress she decided she was going to have to remove them by scraping them off. We had threatened him with this in the beginning when he would not let up put the remover on them so he was scared to say the least. She had written a prescription for a pain reliever that I had to put on him 1 and 1/2 hours before we had to go , then I had to wrap the warts in saran wrap. (He thought that was funny). To make him feel better I told him I would take him to get a Happy Meal form McDonald's(we never get happy meals, but they had bakugans for toys, he loves them). When we got to the doctor's office she asked me if we were going to do all four or just one at a time, I wanted to do as much a Evan could handle( I really wanted to do all of them,but didn't want to stress Evan). We got the first one off(his which really hurt because she had to give him a shot in his thumb to finish numbing it. When we decided to do his foot also He asked me if we could have a backwards night (dessert first) I said yes. Long story short we did 3 of the 4 and then we left. I was going to take him to get ice cream first and the go get dinner but then I remembered Mcd,s had ice cream so I said to Evan let's just go to MCdonalds they have cones there.
When we got there he looked up at me all upset and said "but Tara do they have ice cream to go into the cones?

Watermelon smiles. That is what Justin calls watermelon wedges. When he graduated to eating whole watermelon from just small pieces he always asked for watermelon smiles. I think it is a perfect name for it. When I see them eating watermelon it always makes me smile. W e werre lucky enough to have Peter and Rinda over to play this day. Peter didn't want to stop playing baseball long enough to eat watermelon, but Rinda couldn't resist.

Of course, what is a trip to the pool without ice cream. Our pool doesn't have a concession stand,but a ice cream truck comes everyday sometimes two times. I always let them get ice cream if we are there when it comes. (Yes they are spoiled I know.) We pack a lunch and eat and then swim for a while then usually before we leave we get ice cream.

We spent another great day at the pool. In the 90 degree heat I realy don't think there is any other place to be. They just love it and this year Evan has been seeing a lot of his friends from school which has been a lot of fun for him. Evan has been taking swim lessons for the past week and this week too so since we have to be there for that we stay.

I love the look of pure joy on their faces anytime they are in the water. Evan learned to dive watching some of the older kids while he was waiting for his turn to go off the diving boards. I think he is doing pretty well considering he has never really been shown the proper way to do it. That's my boy!

Best Day Ever

Today as I was leaving work both the boys told me at differeant times that it was the best day ever. You may wonder what we did to get this response from both. Did we take a charter plane to Disney for the day. NO. Did I take them on an all you ever wanted shopping spree at Toys R Us? NO! I took them to the town pool. Yep. My boys are easy to please. Take them swimming for the day and they are as happy as can be.

A@@ Kicking Part 2

Okay so I didn't finish the last post before I published it so here is the rest of the story.
I decided I couldn't deal with him while driving the car so after we got home I put Justin down for a nap and then tired to talk to him about it. He insisted that his karate teacher had to told him that that was a type of kick and told him that was the name of it. I forgot to mention it to his mom when she got home so the next morning I told her to go ask her son what his feet were for. He gave her the same answer. She came out room and looked at me. I told that he said his karate teacher taught him that. She responded "Well if that is the only bad thing that comes out of karate.(NOT)
She went back to him and asked him again what his feet were for he replied "AXE Kicking" I don't know why you guys keep asking me that. It's a type of kick in karate.

It is safe to ride in the car with him. Please don't keep your kids away. He really is a pretty cool kid, even if you din't always understand what he is saying.

So a couple of months ago my friend and I took our kids to the zoo. We went in one car because it was more fun and easier. On the way home I needed to stop at the grocery store to pick up a few things. Tenecia sat in the car with the kids and when I got back in the car she had a funny look on her face. She asked me what the chances of Evan swearing were. I said I didn't think so (we already went through that when he was two) but would not put anything past him. She told me to ask him what his feet were for. I did. A@@ kicking is the answer I got. Asked again same answer.

So I leave him there and finish making lunch and I hear him over there "No hit! Not nice. Hurt People. Naughty! Then he says Got It Tara and gets up and walks away. I guess he has heard that message enough that I don't need to say it anymore. I called him back to the kitchen to ask him why he hit Evan if he knew not to. He looks and at me and hits himself in the head and says "Lost Head Tara.!

Did my twenty-two month old just tell me he hit his brother because he lost his head?

More Exciting News

Okay so of course it has been a while since I updated. I think the craziness between Thanksgiving and Christmas just got to me. So for the very exciting news is "100 pounds" in nine months. Yes I made it. I hit a plateau the beginning of November and my weight went no where for six weeks and finally two weeks before I went home I finally broke through and two days before I went home I hit that magiv number 100 pounds. This morning was another big milestone I finally fit into a size ten jeans. I bought them about a month ago and they were to tight and on a whim I tried them on this morning and they fit.

I am so excited. I hit a goal yesterday that I wasn't sure I would ever be able to do. When I lost weight the last time I got to a certain point and then Stopped and no matter what I did the weight wouldn't budge. ( I even tried training for a marathon-walking not running). Well yesterday when I weighed in I was three pounds below that -Yes three pounds. I have now lost 94 pounds -6 pounds away form 100 in eight and half months. WOW!!! I can't believe it. But more than the weight lose I feel good again. I feel like living life agian. I am getting out and doing things again. I went to Six FlAGS in September and I went in every roller coaster there and I had fun doing it. I no need asthma medication at all. LIFE IS GOOD.

I can't believe it has been so long since I updated this. Alot has happened and I will write about it soon. Evan starts kindergarten tomorrow and then I will have more time on my hands. I just wanted to update my weight loss--73 pounds. I want to lose 2 more pounds by my birthday and then we will see what happens after that. Gotta go Justin is screaming.

Okay so it is finally over. I won! I won! I won! Sorry I'm over that now. Just got excited there for a moment. First time in a long time that I actually set a goal and stuck to it. Although I had a lot of help and support from friends. I got to go shopping with the money I won and found out I dropped four YES FOUR sizes. Life is great right now. I just hope now that the contest is over that I am motivated to keep going as I still have more weight to lose.

Biggest Loser

Here we are in the middle of week 7 of the biggest Loser. This might be the last week,not to sure yet but I am ready for it to end. As of our last weigh in I have lost 33 pounds. I am relly proud of myself, but it is getting hard to take the comments. I knew some of the ladies I was doing this with were getting upset because I kept winning, but it was all confirmed today when I got blames for more than one persons giving up. It is a had concept for me because if I want simething bad enough I try harder I don't give up. I guess that is the competiveness in me. It takes some of the sweetness of the victory away. But I have to say seeing the scale each week makes it worth it every time I get up at 4:50 in the morning or every time in the last couple of weeks when I have been to many birthday parties, baby showers and what have you where there has beeb dessert served or when Evan has wanted to go and eat and I have taken my own food along. I am ready for this to be over so that I can slow down and enjoy the ride and see if I can continue to do this without a "contest". I am scared that I won't be as motivated but I have a few people who I am still going to accountable to so hopefully that will help. If you see me in the next couple of weeks and think about it Ask how I am doing. I feel like I am going home from the comfort of the "ranch" and its routine. Can i really keep this up?

Week 4

Okay so this is a couple of days late. It's been a busy week. I lost five pounds this past week to win the title of the biggest loser again. Yeah that is 4 weeks. This week seems to be harder for some reason. Last week I hurt my leg and could not work out for three days and it felt like torture. Weird. This week five o'clock in the morning just seems to be coming earlier and earlier, crazy how that happens. I know yesterday I decided it was to early and went back to sleep until I had to get up for work. Monday should be interesting.

Okay so this was week three of our biggest loser contest and I am happy to say that I barely squeaked thru to win again. I felt good this week but I started weight training and the weight seemed to be coming back on. I guess getting up at 4:50 to go to the gym really was worth it. I ate so much food on Sunday that I was sick when I got home, but Easter only comes once a year Right? P.S. I hit the twenty pound mark today. 20 pounds in three weeks-- Not to shabby even if I do have to say so myself.

Okay so week 2 of the Biggest Loser was so much harder than the first one. I still won the week,but it was so much closer and so much harder. I am going to have to step up this week. So for the second week in a row I am happy to say that I am the Biggest Loser.

Now for the important news. Justin turned 6 months old last week and cut his first tooth. I was going to take the boys for pictures tomorrow but Evan has a big scab down his nose so I think we will wait until next week.

Well I have never been more happy to that I am the biggest Loser. Well at least for week one. We had our weigh in yesterday and I lost 12 and a half pounds. Yeah for me. It made me want to go out and exercise more because it was so motivating and I ended up walking 23717 steps yesterday. Yes that is a little extreme but what can I say I am crazy.

I'm back. I guess even though I didn't have the baby having a new baby around takes up more time than expected. Justin is now six(almost)months old now and the cutest and sweetest baby you ever met. He is a master roller and sitter upper and trying very hard to crawl.(not ready for that. Evan has taken on the roll of big brother wonderfully actually so wonderfully that we had to put a doorknob lock in the babys' door so he could not get in there unsupervised.

Pumpkin Patch Fun

Rebecca, Grace, Jay, Leslie, and Payton came with us. A fun time was had by all. Evan told me it was the best day ever.

I took Evan to the pumpkin patch on Friday and we had a great time. We rode on the hayride and picked several pumpkins to take home and had donuts. A Fun day.

Today I was going to Mcdonalds to get something to drink and Evan decided he was hungry. He told me he wanted one of those rolled up things. I told him that they had eggs in them(he hates eggs), but he told me that they sounded delicious. I got him one, thinking he would not eat it but when I handed it to him he took and big bite of it and said "Tara, this breakfast dorito is great and proceded to eat the whole thing.. I was so excited because if I can get him to eat eggs my life would be so much easier. I'll make him breakfast doritos anytime.

On Wednesday night I babysat for my friend Marie's kids while she went to back to school night. When I got there Peter had to show me that he was wearing big boy underwear and not diapers anymore. So of course I toldm him what a big boy he was. Later that night as I was putting him to bed I told him good night sweetie I'll see you soon. He looks at me and says "I'm not your sweetie, I'm your big boy!!! Point taken Good night Big Boy.

Too Much Birthday

Yesterday was my birthday and although it was a great day of course I crammed to much into it. The day started with Evan bringing me down a birthday present and then getting him ready for school (did he really need to go it was my birthday after all) and then after I dropped him off going to cooking group, picking him up, going to lunch with a couple of friends, cancelling dinner with another friend( it was to much for Evan, He needed to run around and play and not sit in another restaurant) and then when his parents got home we had cupcakes.. After work I went to get some pictures developed and then went to scrapbooking group and we ordered in food and had cake (again) . Of course this was after my friend Tricia brought me a Natales(THE BEST) cupcake and her enchilads(frozen YEAH!!). To Many sweets in to short of a time. But over all it was a great day spent with great friends.

Evan had his first day of school on Monday and I have to sya that even though I thought I was ready for him to go I was really sad when it was time to leave him. I came home to get some things done and was only able to stay for an hour before I could not take the quietness of the house any lomger and had to leave. He had a great time, but he was very happy to see me when I came to pick him up.
Funny school story when I picked up him on Tueaday we got into the car and we called his mom so he could tell her about his day and I put the phone speaker so I could hear and I heard him tell her that he didn't get to go to time-out. (WHAT!!! he wants to go to timeout!!sine when???)I guess when we were reading the parent handbook on Monday and going over the rules and such he heard us say that there was a special spot in the classroom for the kids to take a time out if they couldn't calm down after the teacher talked to them. I guess he heard the word special and wanted to go there. His explantation "I was wakking thru the blocks and knocking them over and making a lot of noise and I got a "talking to " by the teacher." So funny.

End of An Era

What!!! Today is the end of an era. Today July 29th I can't believe it. Bennigans is closed. Evan and I went for our usual Tuesday night dinner out (kids eat free) and we got there and they were closed. I can't believe it! I have been going there since I moved to New Jersey in 1992. I feel so sad!!!

Wow! It is really July 28th and today is my three year anniversary of taking care of Evan. I can't believe it has been three years.. I remember the day I came to meet him, I wasn't sure if I even wanted the job or not. He was a boy, an only child(dealing with first time parents) and he lived about 40 minutes away , but my friend Trisha told me it would not kill me to go met them. I went and he was just the cutest kid ever ,hugging me and just laughing and everything so I came back and told her that I found my job and the rest as they say is history. We went to lunch at Benihanas to celebrate and he gave me a flower that was yellow and orange that he made at camp.

Evan and I had a great day. We decided to take advantage of the fact that I am dog-sitting for someone who happens to have a swimming pool and invited some friends over and had a swimming party. Of course, I forgot his swimsuit at home, but remembered his bubbles and floaties. I told him he could be a redneck and just swim in his underwear so he looks at me and says "I'm a redneck". I think we are going to do it again tomorrow and have a barbecue also.

Hi. I finally decided to take the leap and join the blogging world. I take so many pictures I decided this would be a good way to post them. Not during much today, just waiting for Brinden to get home so that I can take Alexis to Chuckee Cheese.
